The Australian Association of Social Marketing is thrilled to see a special issue of the Journal of Social Marketing focused on Indigenous peoples’ knowledges, perspectives, and experiences in social marketing research and practice. This issue, the first of its kind for the journal, seeks to amplify the diverse ways in which Indigenous peoples are involved in social marketing.
The guest editors, Professor Maria Raciti and Dr Jessica Harris, both Australian Aboriginal scholars, are inviting empirical and conceptual scholarly articles, case studies, and viewpoints from all methodologies and both “insider” and “outsider” perspectives. They are particularly interested in strengths-based articles that highlight Indigenous peoples’ voices, resilience, ingenuity, and self-determination worldwide.
In line with the “nothing about Indigenous people without Indigenous people” principle, preference will be given to articles that include Indigenous authors and/or acknowledge Indigenous contributors. All authors are asked to position themselves in their articles and make clear if they are Indigenous or non-Indigenous.
This special issue presents a unique opportunity to showcase the important work being done by and with Indigenous peoples in social marketing. It is a call to action for researchers and practitioners to engage in research that centres Indigenous peoples’ knowledges, perspectives, and experiences.
The submission deadline for this special issue is April 30, 2025. We encourage all those interested in contributing to this important conversation to submit their articles and join us in amplifying Indigenous voices in social marketing research and practice.
For more information, please visit the Journal of Social Marketing website or contact the guest editors directly.
