Social Marketing seeks to develop and integrate marketing concepts with other approaches to influence behaviour that benefits individuals and communities for the greater social good.
The Australian Association of Social Marketing is an independent, volunteer based organisation. It is the peak body representing social marketers in Australia and aims to provide support for social marketers throughout the country and act as a central resource for those engaged in, or interested in, social marketing practice and research.
Social Marketing practice is guided by ethical principles. It seeks to integrate research, best practice, theory, audience and partnership insight, to inform the delivery of competition sensitive and segmented social change programmes that are effective, efficient, equitable and sustainable.
The Voice to Parliament – A Statement from the AASM
The Australian Association of Social Marketing (AASM) Executive Committee supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart. We hold the view that the establishment of a Voice to Parliament is an important step towards reconciliation – recognising the importance of First Nations Australians, and addressing the injustices of the past. Social marketing practice is guided by ethical principles of social equity and fairness and diversity and inclusion. In alignment with these ethical principles, we see the Voice as an inclusive platform that recognises and ensures First Nations Australians have a say in decisions that affect them and their communities. We join the many people, communities, and organisations who support a “YES” vote to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are recognised in the Australian constitution in a meaningful way, and believe that advocating for the establishment of a Voice to Parliament is a step in the right direction towards supporting a fairer and inclusive Australia.
